POSITION TITLE: COURT REPORTING PROGRAM DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO: Director of Education
SUPERVISES: Instructors
TRAVEL: 25%
JOB LEVEL: Management
JOB LOCATION: Arlington, VA
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing leadership role to a group of instructors and ensuring the program is in accordance with accreditation standards. In addition, delivers educational materials to students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees departmental budget, streamlines orders, and provides input on expenses needed for upcoming year’s budget.
- Trains new instructors in “technical” area.
- Participates in the faculty interview process and makes recommendations to the Director of Education.
- Serves as first line substitute. Instructs classes and serves as a tutor.
- Reviews lesson plans and syllabus for technical concepts and ensures proper transition from term to term.
- Recruits advisory board members in conjunction with the Career Services Coordinator/Director.
- Holds monthly department meetings.
- Sets up guest speakers and field trips for students.
- Works with Instructors and Retention Officer(s) to assist students with issues that could cause them to leave school.
- Ensures Instructors are current with professional development.
KNOWLEDGE AND BACKGROUND: Requires a Bachelor Degree and three years of experience in the Court Reporting field. Masters Degree is preferred. The position requires personal computer skills (Microsoft Office, inclusive of Word, Excel, and Outlook). Excellent spelling and grammar skills with the ability to communicate in a courteous, tactful and concise manner, is essential.
SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position requires minimum of 3 years management experience. Has the authority to direct and oversee the employee’s daily work activities. Has the authority to recommend the following employment actions; hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Director of Education, and has Instructors reporting to them.
WORK ASSIGNMENTS: This job regularly receives work assignments directly from others in addition to the manager.
WRITTEN AND ORAL COMMUNICATION: Frequently communicates complex information and interacts with management. Presents, resolves conflicts and address delicate situations. Motivates and persuades others.
DECISION MAKING: Decisions have major implications on the management and operations of campus. Job contributes to important strategy, operational and business decisions that effect the campus.
PROBLEM SOLVING: The problems in this job are different, but they tend to come up often.
INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION: Sets goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Assists in planning, monitoring and managing budget in functional area of the department.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Office environment/no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands. Must be able to work nights and weekends.

POSITION TITLE: FACILITATOR/TEACHER–COURT REPORTER
HOURS: Evening part-time, 6pm to 10pm,Monday thru Thursdays

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches college-level court reporting classes;
- Prepares class syllabus, outline and daily lesson plans as required; Provides course syllabus and outline to students on the first day of class; Maintains and ensures consistency between the course catalog and the daily lesson plans.
- Prepares and administers examinations, student projects, and other teaching aids needed to fulfill objectives of program. Sets up classroom, lab, equipment, projects, assignments, etc in preparation for each new phase or class start.
- Maintains accurate records of attendance, grades, progress of students, and reports the same in a timely manner to manager.
- Maintains clean, effective, and professional learning environment;
- Attends all scheduled in-service activities, meetings, and completes all scheduled/assigned activities in support of individual faculty development plan.
- Communicates budget needs to Campus Management on a timely basis.
- Tutors and conducts conferences with students.
- Maintains discipline and enforces school rules and regulations.
- Assists with library research needs, and information gathering and makes textbooks recommendations.
- Participates in committees, graduation ceremonies and other school events
